The Santa Clara Valley Hockey Association is a member of NorCal, the Northern California Junior Hockey Association.  Blackhawk teams play other clubs throughout Northern California including: Berkeley, Cupertino (California Cougars), Fresno, High Sierra (Sparks, NV), Oakland, Roseville (Capitol Thunder,) San Francisco, San Jose, Santa Clara, Santa Rosa, Stockton, Tri-Valley, and Vacaville.  Not every club will have teams in each division, so you may not travel to each city. 

After club tryouts and preseason games in September, each team competes in about 20 league games from October through February.  Almost all league games are played on weekends with approximately half of the games being away games.  There are a few exceptions of games scheduled during the weekday, but they are limited to local travel.

The season culminates with playoffs in late March and early April among the top four teams in each age division.  The top two teams in each age division then compete in the California State Championships.   

Practices are held at Sharks Ice at Fremont and at Logitech Ice in San Jose.  With games and practices, you can expect your child will be on the ice at least 2-3 times a week.   

There are no regular league games during Thanksgiving weekend, Christmas vacation or President’s Day weekend, however, many teams elect to participate in holiday tournaments, some of which are held in Southern California, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, Washington or Canada.  Traveling to play in a tournament is not a club requirement, but many teams benefit from the additional competition and the bonding experience of traveling together.  Costs for tournament play are not included in the club membership dues.
